June 25, 2003 -- On June 25th at approximately 8:30 p.m. a second fire, likely arson initiated, engulfed 113 acres of the Bosque on both sides of the river at the Montano Bridge.

June 24, 2003 -- On June 24, 2003, a fire occurred in the Rio Grande Bosque consuming approximately 150 acres of wooded area. The fire extended on the west side from the I-40 Bridge north to the Oxbow. On the east side the fire extended from I-40, north to approximately Campbell Road.


Fire suppression and cleanup continues and the Bosque has now been closed from Cochiti Dam on the north to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge on the south.

Over the next few days and weeks we will be ascertaining the impact on these studies and restoration effort. Your concern about our Bosque and your efforts to preserve it are appreciated.
